WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita State Cheer team took home top honors in two categories this past weekend at UCA College Cheer Nationals bringing home fourth place in the traditional routine and sixth place in their game day routine.
In front of an energized crowd at ESPN Wide World of Sports the team performed a flawless game day routine with zero deductions on Friday night putting them just 3 points behind the first-place team.
"It was our first time ever competing in the game day portion of a national competition. We went out, represented ourselves and the university well. Going through the process this year will definitely set us up for success in the future." said spirit coordinator Kelli Rappard.
Saturday morning the team took the mat with the traditional routine taking home fourth place. This gives the team a consistent showing in the top five over the past two decades of competition.
"As a first-year Shocker cheer coach it was important for me to uphold the tradition of placing well at a national competition. I've learned a lot from my predecessors and I'm excited for what our future holds." said head cheer coach Kevin Keith.
