PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Wichita State thrower
Isaiah Evans was named the American Athletic Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week for the week of April 30 – May 7, the league announced Tuesday.
The Mulvane, Kan., native ended the regular season on a high note finishing top-3 in three different events at the Shocker Open on May 3, at Cessna Stadium.
Evans placed second in the hammer throw with the seventh farthest heave in Shocker history of 59.73m/195-11. His mark is No. 2 in the American Athletic Conference behind teammate
Cory Martens.
The senior also placed second in the discus (49.99m/164-0) and third in shot put (14.32m/46-11.75).
This is the first time Evans has been named Male Field Athlete of the Week in his career and the fourth time a Shocker has been awarded the honor during the outdoor season.
Evans will next compete Friday, May 10, at 2:30 p.m., in the hammer throw at the American Athletic Conference Championships at Cessna Stadium.
