McDuffie Opens Play Thursday at Portsmouth Invitational

4/18/2019 3:39:00 PM

Wichita State's Markis McDuffie will take part in this weekend's Portsmouth Invitational (PIT) in Portsmouth, Va.

Now in its 67th year, the PIT is a four-day, 12-game tournament that offers top college seniors the chance to showcase their skills in front of professional scouts, including representatives from all 30 NBA teams.

The list of PIT alumni includes NBA legends Rick Barry, Earl 'The Pearl' Monroe, Dave Cowens, John Stockton and Scottie Pippen. Past Shockers at the PIT include Shaquille Morris (2018), Darius Carter (2015), Carl Hall (2013), Garrett Stutz (2012) and Paul Miller (2006).

Fans can watch live streaming of all games through the event's website -- portsmouthinvitational.com.

McDuffie's team, Portsmouth Partnership, is guaranteed three games. The first is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT on Thursday evening. Friday action comes at either 2:15 p.m. (with a loss) or 8 p.m. (with a win). The event concludes Saturday.

Portsmouth Partnership's eight-man rosters includes a pair of 2018-19 WSU foes: Lipscomb's Garrison Mathews and Oklahoma's Jamuni McNeace.

The 6-foot-8 McDuffie was a second team all-conference selection in his final season as a Shocker and became just the 13th player in program history to finish with more than 1,500 career points. McDuffie averaged 18.2 points this year and led the Shockers to the NIT semifinals in New York for only the second time in 13 appearances.

A total of 64 players were chosen to compete. McDuffie is one of five from the American Athletic Conference, along with Jalen Adams (UConn), Shizz Alston Jr. (Temple), DaQuan Jeffries (Tulsa) and Jeremiah Martin (Memphis).
