Shockers Travel to Lawrence for 92nd Kansas Relays

WICHITA, Kan. – A week after posting 48 personal records, the Wichita State track and field program travels to Lawrence to compete in the 92nd Kansas Relays, April 17-20, at Rock Chalk Park.
 
The four-day meet begins with multi-events on Wednesday, April 17.  Maria Romero is the lone Shocker competing in the multis, the women's heptathlon is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
 
Romero continues day two of the heptathlon on Thursday, April 18, at 11:00 a.m., while the open hammer throw begins at 12:00 p.m., and open track events at 5:00 p.m.
 
Friday and Saturday is in full swing with events beginning at 9:00 a.m., each day.
 
Single day passes are $12 reserved, $7 for adults and $3 for youth 17 and under, while two-day passes (April 19-20) are $19 reserved, $12 for adults and $5 for youth 17 and under.
 
FloTrack ($) will produce a live stream beginning Thursday, April 18-20. Live results will be posted on the official @GoShockersTFXC twitter account and goshockers.com.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Wichita State hosted the K.T. Woodman Classic in dominating fashion, while Zack Penrod competed at the John McDonnell Invitational.  The Shockers completed the weekend with 48 personal records and two Shocker all-time top-10 marks. Penrod won the 1500m with the fifth fastest time of 3:44.72, while Tianna Holmes made her debut in the 200m running the 10th fastest time in school history of 24.20.
 
IN THE RANKINGS
The Shockers currently have 10 top-50 national rankings, senior Aaron True leads the program with the fifth best javelin mark in the nation of 72.45m/237-8. Rebekah Topham leads the women's team with the highest national ranking, the redshirt junior is No. 8 in the 3000m steeplechase clocking in at 10:09.94.
 
SQUAD GOALS
In the latest USTFCCCA national squad event rankings, the Shocker men's team is top-10 in three events, while the women have one. The men's team ranks No. 5 in the javelin and decathlon, while the men's long jump group is No. 7. The Shocker women's heptathlon group is No. 4 in the nation.
 
TRUE TABBED ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
For the second time in four weeks, All-American Aaron True was named Male Field Athlete of the Week. On April 12, True won the K.T. Woodman Classic javelin with a meet record throw of 72.45m/237-8. His performance bettered his conference-leading mark and moved him up seven spots in the national rankings to No. 5.
 
SHOCKER LEADERS
Claudia Rojo leads the Wichita State track and field program in four individual events, the only Shocker to do so. Rojo has season leading marks in the 100m hurdles (14.30), 400m hurdles (1:02.44), long jump (5.83m/19-1.5) and heptathlon (4,973).  Cory Martens leads the Shocker men's team in three events, including the shot put (16.79m/55-1), discus (52.14m/171-1) and hammer throw (61.41m/201-6).
 
UP NEXT
The majority of the team will travel to Lubbock, Texas to compete in the Red Raider Shootout on April 26, while the top distance athletes will head to Des Moines, Iowa, to compete in the Drake Relays April 24-27.
