Johnson, Wilson Lead Multi Events After Day One

WICHITA, Kan. – Shockers Ben Johnson and Sydney Wilson lead the multi-event competitions after day one action of the K.T. Woodman Classic at Cessna Stadium.
 
Sydney Wilson won three of the four day one events to finish the day in the lead with 3,195 points. The redshirt sophomore won the 100m hurdles, high jump and 200m, while finishing third in the shot put.
 
Wilson's day started with running a 14.39 in the 100m hurdles, a personal best time. She carried her momentum into the high jump claiming her second event title of the day with a clearance of 1.66m/5-5.25. She recorded a toss of 11.36m/37-3.25, before ending the day with a wind aided (+5.1m/s) personal best 200m time of 25.45.
 
Ben Johnson finished top three in four of five day one events, he started the day off strong finishing second in the 100m dash scoring 894 points. The redshirt senior clocked in at 10.85, a personal best time.
 
The Tonganoxie, Kan., native carried his momentum to the field events winning the long jump and shot put, Johnson recorded a leap of 6.96m/22-10 and a toss of 14.32m/46-11.75. He rounded out the day finishing third in the high jump (1.92m/6-3.5) and fourth in the 400m dash (51.09).
 
Fellow teammates Chandler Stiawalt and Kendra Henry each finished the day in second place in their respective multi.
 
Stiawalt, a redshirt freshman from Ness City, recorded four top-5 finishes to end the day with 3,519 points. His top finish came in the high jump placing second with a clearance of 1.95m/6-4.75, he also placed third in the long jump (6.70m/21-11.75) and shot put (11.42m/37-5.75).
 
Henry recorded three top-3 finishes, including one first place finish in the shot put. The redshirt sophomore started things off on the right foot finishing third in the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 14.88. Her momentum continued into event two finishing second in the high jump (1.63m/5-4.25) and winning the shot put (11.98m/39-3.75). She finished the day with a personal best 200m clocking in at 26.86.
 
Other notable performances include, Grant Downes finishing day one of the men's decathlon in fifth with 3,324 points and Davis Dubbert winning the decathlon high jump equaling his personal best clearance of 1.98m/6-6.
 
Day two of the multi's continue Thursday, April 11 with the decathlon 110m hurdles at 10:30 a.m., followed by the heptathlon long jump at 11:45 a.m. The Shocker Pre-State Challenge will see its first action with the start of the boy's pentathlon at 12:00 p.m., followed by the girl's pentathlon at 12:30 p.m.
 
Admission is $5 for adults, ages 3-12 is $4 and children under 3 are free.
