Shockers Look to Get Back on Track vs. Mizzou

WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State women's tennis team is set to host its second home match of the season at the Wichita Country Club.
 
WSU (1-2) plays host to Mizzou at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6.  Live Stats will be available HERE
 
Marta Bellucco and Sandra Honigova lead the Shockers in doubles play, sporting a 2-0 mark in the number two spot. Ting-Ya Hsu and Alexandra Lazarova are 1-0 in flight three.
 
Scouting Mizzou
The Tigers are off to a 5-1 start in dual action, with wins over Saint Louis (7-0), Southeast Missouri State (4-0), Arkansas State (4-1), Morgan State (7-0) and Virginia Tech (4-1). Their lone loss was a 4-2 setback to Old Dominion.
 
Individually, Mackenzy Middlebrooks and Ellie Wright lead the Tigers with 5-1 and 6-0 records in the number one and four spots, respectively. Lisa Fukutoku is 4-1, primarily in the third flight while Vivien Abraham is 3-0 in flights five and six.

It was a battle of two top-50 teams when the two met last February in Columbia. No. 30 WSU held off a late Mizzou comeback to seal the 4-3 victory over 49th ranked Tigers, in a match that lasted close to six hours. After clinching the doubles point over the Tigers, WSU collected wins in the top two slots and on court five, where Marta Bellucco came away with a thrilling three-set win over Clare Raley.
 
 
MILESTONE WATCH
The 2018-19 season marks Colin Foster's 10th as head women's tennis coach at Wichita State. Foster has compiled an impressive 175-71 record in his 10th season, and his .710 career winning percentage is the second highest in program history. With four more wins, Foster will make the jump to the top of the record books for most wins in women's tennis program history. Les Stafford (178-143, 16 seasons) sets atop the record books with Foster closing in.  
 
Foster has coached 45 all-conference selections, 26 individual conference titles (20 singles and six doubles), 37 MVC Player of the Week awards and 19 MVC Scholar-Athletes. A Purdue graduate and three-year assistant at TCU, Foster earned MVC Coach of the Year honors five times, with four players named MVC Freshman of the Year.
 
Following its meeting versus Mizzou, the Shockers travel to Texas with matches against Houston and UT-Arlington, Feb. 8- 10.
