RIO VERDE, Ariz. - Shooting an even-par in the final round of the Rio Verde Invitational, freshman
Hana Mirnik claimed the first top 10 finish of her collegiate career.
Her seventh place finish lifted Wichita State to a seventh place finish, compiling a team score of 299 in the final round.
Mirnik headed into the final round tied for 31st with a 76, but shooting an even-par on the first four holes moved her into a tie for 13th. The Celje, Slovenia, native came up with a birdie on the 17th green, moving into a tie for 10th.
Moving up to seventh down the stretch, Mirnik finished with two birdies and two bogeys to close out the day. Senior Gavrilla Arya finished with eight bogeys to claim a tie for 39th, while Michelle Ledermann added four bogeys and a birdie to finish with another 78.
Senior Laine Evans jumped 19 places after coming up with three birdies, finishing with a 76 in the final round to tie for 55th. Junior Annika Chickering had her lowest performance since the Payne Stewart Memorial in September, shooting a 74 that moved her 28 places after the first round.
Xavier won the event after shooting below 300 in each round, edging Seton Hall by three strokes. Boise State finished third with a 598 and Western Michigan came in fourth while Arkansas State and Bradley squeaked by the Shockers by three strokes. The Shockers jumped six places as a team, being tied for 13th as a team after the first round.
Wichita State takes two weeks off from regular season action, with its next scheduled tournament at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Boulder City, Nev. March 11-12.
