LAFAYETTE, La. - The Wichita State men's golf team continues its spring season on Monday, competing in the 34th annual Louisiana Classic.

Four teams in the 15-team field are ranked in the top 100 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, with Illinois (29) and Kent State (61) coming off an NCAA Championship appearance last season.

Following a 10th place finish at The Farms Invitational to open the spring season, head coach Grier Jones is shaking up the lineup by adding two new players on the Shocker scorecard. Palmer Hays is competing in his first tournament since The Jackrabbit, where he tied for 47th with a score of 231.

Freshman Grayson Wallace will be making his collegiate debut on Monday, coming in with a stroke average of 71.8 in high school. Illinois managed to come in second at last year's event in Louisiana, losing to tournament champion Texas A&M by eight strokes. The Fighting Illini set an event record in 2015, coming up with the largest margin of victory with 22 strokes and shooting the lowest first round score in 2016 with a 277.

Kent State eyes its second title in three years, winning the Louisiana Classics in 2017. North Texas comes in ranked 65 in the Golfweek/Sagrin Rankings and are coming off a ninth place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate.

With a ranking of 77 in the country, Texas-San Antonio looks to keep the momentum going on Monday. After claiming the tournament title in its home event, UTSA came up with seventh place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate last week.
