WICHITA, Kan. - Sophomore pitcher Erin McDonald has been named the American Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday. 

Additionally, sophomore first baseman Neleigh Herring was named to the conference's weekly honor roll. 

McDonald pitched in four games this past weekend at the La Tech Invitational, pitching shutout innings in three of them. The Norman, Okla., native recorded saves against Abilene Christian and Louisiana Tech and snagged a season-high five strikeouts against Mississippi Valley State. McDonald pitched six shutout innings against Fairleigh Dickinson, giving the Shockers their fifth win of the weekend. 

Herring compiled six hits and 10 RBI over the weekend, earning a spot on the La Tech Invitational All-Tournament team. She came up with a career high in doubles (2), hits (3) and RBI (5) in a 13-3 win over Louisiana Tech and hit her second home run against Fairleigh Dickinson. 

The honors mark the first time that McDonald and Herring have landed weekly awards in their careers. 

Herring, McDonald and the Shockers travel to Arlington, Texas, for the Maverick Invitational, beginning action on Friday at 1 p.m.
