Last Time Out
           Â
Winny Koskei finished third at the Midwest Regional, punching herself a ticket to the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row.
She finished behind only the top two runners out of the Big 12 (Cailie Logue of Iowa State and Taylor Somers of Oklahoma State).
           Â
Rebekah Topham and
Yazmine Wright finished in 31st and 38th, respectively to help the Shocker women finish in eighth. That's tied for their second-best finish at a Midwest Regional.
           Â
Ben Flowers earned All-Region honors on the men's side. He finished in 17th to cap his breakout season.
           Â
Zack Penrod also impressed for Wichita State. He placed 37th overall as the duo led the way for the Shocker men.
Wichita State's men's team finished 13th as a team, and it was its best finish since 2015.

Coach Hunter on the Meet
On his thoughts going into the weekend
"Well, I really hope that she can earn All-American status again. She's had a great year. She's been running really well and competing really well. I'm not sure how she'll bounce back from the meet last week, and not just for her, I wonder how everyone will bounce back. Winny's a tough girl, and my expectation would be that she's going to compete."
Â
On how weather might affect the race
"I think she thrives in good weather days. The weather wasn't great at Nationals last year, but she handled it well. Last year, it was a scary race because she didn't get off to a good start. She had to catch up and continually pick people off all the way until the finish line. My hope is she gets a better start this year. Hopefully if the conditions are better, she'll have a better start and then just go in there and race like she always does."

Koskei's Season In Review
           Â
Winny Koskei led the way for the Shocker women this season.
She was the low stick for Wichita State in every race she ran, including last week's Midwest Regional.
She finished in third overall on a tough course, coming in behind only Cailie Logue (the Midwest Region's Athlete of the Year) and Taylor Somers (runner-up to Logue at the Big 12 and Midwest Regional meets).
She defended her American Athletic Conference title on Nov. 1, winning with a time of 20:15 to lead a Shocker women one-two punch.
Koskei showed her domination over the rest of the field, beating her nearest competitor (
Rebekah Topham) by 14 seconds.
The All-American has had a stellar season so far, impressing in every race she's run.
At Pre-Nationals, Koskei ran what Coach
Kirk Hunter called "probably her best race in her career here." Koskei finished seventh in a 200+ person field jam packed with ranked teams and All-Americans.
She came out of JK Gold as the individual champion, dethroning fellow All-American
Rebekah Topham. She won the race with a time of 13:48.5. Her performance led the Shocker women to a team victory as well.
The lone other meet Koskei has run in was at the Bill Dellinger Invitational in Eugene, Oregon. The meet had fast times, but was also filled with the same competition she will see at Nationals this week.
Koskei ran her season best in Oregon, which was a time of 20:14. She finished in 13th overall, which has been her lowest finish on the results page this season.
Koskei has proven she is back and ready to claim another All-America honor.
