HEAD COACH GREGG MARSHALL ON...

... Junior college transfer Trey Wade's day:
"He was guarding Dexter Dennis and did a pretty good job there. We mixed in a little bit of zone, but when we were man-to-man it was his primary responsibility… As a veteran player that we brought in to try to have some immediate impact, I thought he did a pretty good job. He's had a pretty good fall camp. There are days when he looks better than others, but that's just any new player or any player for that matter. To me, it's energy. When he plays with a lot of energy and it just flying around, that's when he's at his best.

… Tired legs:
We did practice for two-and-a-half hours yesterday and for two hours this morning, right before that scrimmage, which is more important to me than the public scrimmage. I needed to get my work in today, so we went from 10-12. They were a little sluggish. They looked like they didn't have quite the freshest legs in the world, but the rest of the day is off and then they've got tomorrow off, so hopefully they'll be a little better on Monday.

… Saturday afternoon's scrimmage and the practice session that preceded it:
"We've had a lot of good practices. Unfortunately, this morning wasn't very good, and it carried over. I didn't think it was very good today in the scrimmage. I don't know whether they're hitting a little wall now. Maybe some of the new guys were a little nervous about being out there doing this, but that's just the progression you go through as a new player. You have to eventually draw back the curtains and let people see what you're doing."

… WSU's freshmen ballhandlers:
"They've been really good. They're very talented, first. It starts with that. And they're good people."

The day's signature play – a pick-and-roll from Burton to Midtgaard:
"I thought that was the nicest play of the scrimmage, was (Jamarius') find for Asbjorn. He spoon-fed him for a layup. He's comfortable with the ball screen stuff."

… Separating the bad for the good in an intrasquad environment:
"Unfortunately, that's what you have to do for the preseason. I'd love to be able to bring other teams in and play more practices against other teams, but I just don't think they allow you to do that. So we have this, and then we have the closed scrimmage, and then we have an exhibition game, but that's it. You don't get to see other players and teams until you play your opener."

… What he most wants to see from his players in a scrimmage setting:
"I'll watch the film and just look at how guys are approaching the playing hard, playing smart, taking care of the basketball, being in proper defensive position, communicating. You can break this 20-minute running clock film down and there'll be 40-to-50 things easy that we can point to that were either good or bad."

SENIOR CENTER JAIME ECHENIQUE ON....

First-day jitters from the new guys:
"This is a new environment for them. Some of them looked anxious out there. Their minds just blow at seeing so many people. That happened to me last year, so I can understand the situation. It's still October, and we have a couple more games for the new guys to get used to environment and get into the system.

JUNIOR CENTER ASBJØRN MIDTGAARD ON....

Ironing out some of the early season wrinkles:
"We've still got a lot of stuff to work on, but we're still in October. The games don't start for a couple of weeks. We'll address it in practice, watch film about and just go from there. We'll keep getting better."

One of the day's signature players -- his pick-and-roll basket from Jamarius Burton:
"We have our sets and quicks... I set the screen, rolled, and he just had his eyes up. We had eye contact. He found me."
