PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Wichita State distance team set 11 personal bests and four Shocker all-time top-10 marks at the Pitt State Invitational Saturday.

Wichita State entered 26 athletes to compete in mid-distance and distance races at the Pitt State Invitational. 11 athletes ran away with personal bests marks, including four Shockers recording all-time top-10 marks in their respective events.

Rebekah Topham highlighted the day winning the 3000m with a time of 9:26.76, setting a Robert W. Plaster Center – Harvey Dean Track facility record. Teammate
Winny Koskei followed in second with a personal best time of 9:30.76. Topham and Koskei each set all-time top-10 marks, Topham No. 4 and Koskei No. 6.

Yazmine Wright,
Rita Schnacker and
Destini Eskridge each recorded top-5 finishes.
Yazmine Wright finished second in the 800m with a personal best time 2:11.8, the sixth fastest in Shocker history.

Schnacker finished second in the 5000m race with a personal best time of 17:32.38, while Eskridge placed fifth in her 5000m Shocker debut (18:26.05).

The men's mile featured eight Shockers, five of which set personal bests.
Zack Penrod ran 4:04.80 to win the race, while
Nathan Wickoren recorded the seventh fastest mile in Shocker history. Wickoren finished the race in 4:06.39, a personal best as well.

Other milers setting personal best include,
Cory Landon (4:17.84),
Connor Stine (4:20.17),
Bryce Merriman (4:20.92) and
Jack Lowry (4:26.69).
Halle Johnson and
Hope Saunders each recorded personal bests in the women's mile, Johnson placed 10th with a time of 5:04.59 and Saunders finished the mile in 5:46.10.

Ben Flowers recorded a top-10 finish, placing seventh in the 5000m with a personal best time of 14:49.53.

NEXT UP
Wichita State will rest the majority of the team while a few select will compete on Friday, Feb. 1, as the Shockers host the Wichita State Invitational at the Heskett Center. Admission is $5, three years and under are free.
