PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Wichita State thrower
Cory Martens was named the American Athletic Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 16-22, the league announced Tuesday.

The Newton, Kan., native led the Shocker throwers with four top-3 finishes, including three first place finishes. On Friday, Martens won the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular weight throw with a mark of 19.76m/64-10, moving him up to No. 6 on the Shocker all-time top-10 list.

His mark is No. 1 on the American Athletic Conference performance list and currently No. 32 nationally.

Martens carried his success into Saturday, sweeping the Shocker Prelude throws with marks of 19.40m/63-7.75 in the weight throw and 16.31/53-6.25 shot put.

It is the first American Athlete of the Week honor for Wichita State in the 2019 season.

Martens and the Shockers hit the road for the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., beginning Jan. 24-26.
