Shockers Set Two School Records at Triangular

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Daysha Bullocks and Kelsey Slawson each set school records as the Shockers fell short in the fifth annual KU-KSU-WSU Triangular Friday night.
 
Wichita State scored 211 points coming up just short of triangular champion Kansas with 228 points, while Kansas State finished second with 215 points. The Shocker men scored 108, while the women finished 103.
 
Despite losing triangular the Shockers had some impressive marks, including school records set by Daysha Bullocks in the 600yd (1:24.44) and Kelsey Slawson bettering her shot put record with a mark of (15.61m/51-2.75). Four more all-time top-10 marks were recorded including, Paula Garcia and Cory Martens each with their second top-10 mark of the season, in as many weeks. Garcia won the 60m with a personal best time of 7.59, the fifth fastest in Shocker history, while Martens moved up two spots to No. 6 on the weight throw list with a mark of 19.76m/64-10.

Slawson's second all-time top-10 mark of the day came on sixth place finish in the weight throw. Her mark of 16.36m/53-8.25 moved her to No. 8 on the all-time list.
 
Joseph Holthusen won the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.08, that personal best time ranks No. 8 all-time. Holthusen became the third true freshman in the 2019 season to set a top-10 mark, Sidney Sapp (No.4 high jump) and Amiya Anoma (No. 7 triple jump) recorded top-10 marks on Jan. 12.
 
The Shockers came away with a total of 26 top-3 finishes, including seven titles. Slawson, Holthusen, Martens and Garcia each won their event while setting top-10 marks. Other titles include, Winny Koskei (3000m – 9:53.11), Rebekah Topham (mile – 4:56.71), Alesa Frey (3.90m/12-9.5) and Rayvon Allen (200m – 22.13).

Wichita State hosts the Shocker Prelude Saturday, Jan. 19 in the Heskett Center. A live stream will be produced by WSUtv, while admission is $5. Field events begin at 11:00 a.m., while the running events start at 3:00 p.m.
