Shockers Prepare for 13-Team Field in The Jackrabbit

VALENTINE, Neb. - After having a week off from competition, the Wichita State men's golf team returns to action on Sunday when they face 13 teams in The Jackrabbit.
 
Competing with the Shockers include Idaho, Kansas, Missouri, Missouri State, North Dakota, Omaha, SIUE, UCF, UMKC, Hutchinson Community College, Indian Hills Community College, along with tournament host South Dakota State. The Jayhawks obtained the third-lowest 54-hole score in The Jackrabbit's history, shooting 834 as a team last season. Kansas won the Stockton Regional to advance to the NCAA Championship in 2018, finishing with a 54-hole score of 894.
 
The Shockers will get their first look at conference opponent UCF this season, who finished third in the American Athletic Conference Championship in 2018. UCF advanced all the way to the NCAA Championship after placing second in the Kissimmee Regional last season.  
 
Wichita State is coming off a seventh-place finish at the Ram Masters Invitational on Sept. 18, where senior Yannik Emmert earned his seventh career top-10 finish. Sophomore Zac Owens earned his second career top-25 finish in Fort Collins, Colo., compiling a 54-hole score of 215. Senior Adrien Michellod is coming off a 219 performance, where he obtained his second-lowest career 18-hole score with 70 in the second round of the Ram Masters Invitational.
 
Freshman Dawson Lewis will appear in his third collegiate tournament Sept. 30-Oct. 2 after shooting a 225 in his last tournament while sophomore Palmer Hays rounds out Wichita State's five-player scorecard. Hays, who will make his season debut, played in eight rounds over three tournaments last season and finished with a 75.86 stroke average. His best finish as a freshman came in the 2017 Ram Masters Invitational, where he shot a career-low round of 73 and compiled a 54-hole score of 227.
