WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State cross-country student-athlete
Winny Koskei has been named the American Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week.

Koskei, a sophomore from Kericho, Kenya, led the Shockers to a second place team finish with a third place individual finish at the 30th Annual Chile Pepper Festival on Sept. 22 in Fayetteville, Ark.

She finished the 5K (3.1 miles) race with a personal best time of 16:36.5. Koskei completed the first mile of the course in 5:30.4, the fourth fastest of the day. At the 3.5K marker, Koskei had moved up one spot to third with a time of 11:46.9. She held on to third place through the final leg of the race finishing with an overall time of 16:36.5.

Koskei becomes the first female cross-country runner in Shocker history to be honored with the American Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week.

The Shockers are next in action on Oct. 13, as the team will split to travel to compete at the Pre-Nationals in Madison, Wis., and the FHSU Tiger Open in Victoria, Kan.
