Shockers Host Cincinnati for Three Game Set

WICHITA, Kan. - A busy weekend at the ballpark for Wichita State begins Friday night when the Shockers host Cincinnati at 6 p.m. for the first of a three game series.

• The Shockers are 21-14 on May 4, 24-2 on May 5 and 19-9 on May 6.

Scouting Cincinnati
The Bearcats are 22-20 overall and 8-7 in The American with wins over California, San Diego, Northern Kentucky, UT-Martin three times, Indiana, Toledo twice, Tulane, Houston twice, Memphis three times, Wright State, UCF, Xavier, UConn, and Kansas three times. Losses have come against San Diego, Sam Houston State three times, UT-Martin, Tennessee three times, Wright State twice, Toledo, Tulane twice, Houston, Miami, Ohio twice, UCF twice, and UConn twice. They are led offensively by Manny Rodriguez who is hitting .304 with 14 doubles, nine home runs and 32 RBI. As a team, they are hitting .250 with a 3.80 ERA and .967 fielding percentage. The Bearcats are led by head coach Scott Googins.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams.

Ritter Named to Honor Roll
Wichita State baseball student-athlete Luke Ritter has been named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll for the week of April 23-29. Ritter, a junior outfielder from Overland Park, Kan., went 7-for-17 (.412) with five runs, one double, two home runs, eight RBI, two walks and a sacrifice fly in four games last week. He had a hit in all four games to push his career-best hitting streak to 17 games. In Tuesday's win at Kansas, he went 3-for-5 with a career-high five RBI. He also had two runs, a double and a home run. In game one against UCF, he went 1-for-4 with two runs and in game two he went 2-for-5 with a RBI and a home run. In the finale, he went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a sacrifice fly.

Sweeps
Wichita State earned a season sweep of Kansas with a 14-5 win on April 24 in Lawrence. The Shockers also defeated the Jayhawks 11-0 in Wichita on April 18. It was WSU's first win in Lawrence since 2012 and the first season sweep of KU since 2012. The Shockers also earned a season sweep of Oklahoma State, which was the first time since 2010.

11 Different Shockers
Eleven different Shockers have hit a home run this season. Tennessee Tech leads the nation with 15 different players.

Ritter Stays Hot
Junior utility player Luke Ritter is hitting .391 over his last 26 games. In those games, he is 43-for-110 with 28 runs, seven doubles, one triple, five home runs, 20 RBI and three sacrifice flies.

17-Game Hitting Streak
Junior Luke Ritter is on a career-best 17-game hitting streak. During the streak, he is 29-for-69 (.420) with 17 runs, four doubles, one triple, three home runs, 13 RBI, five walks, four hit by pitch and two stolen bases.

Leadoff Home Run
Junior Luke Ritter led off the April 28 game at UCF with a home run. It was the first leadoff home run for the Shockers since Greyson Jenista hit one at Indiana State on May 18, 2017.

National Leaders
Wichita State already has five grand slams this season, which leads the NCAA. Austin Peay, Coastal Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee Tech are in second with four grand slams. Individually, Alec Bohm is tied for the national lead with three grand slams. Matt Wallner of Southern Miss also has three.

Four in a Row
Wichita State collected four extra base hits in a row in the fifth inning against Kansas on April 18. The Shockers had four-straight doubles. It was the first time WSU had four extra base hits in a row since March 5, 2004 when they had a double and three home runs against Louisiana- Lafayette in the eighth inning.

WSU had four doubles in the fifth inning against Kansas on April 18. The last time the Shockers had four doubles in an inning was April 15, 2007 against Southern Illinois when they had four in the sixth inning.

Heuer's CG
Junior pitcher Codi Heuer threw his first career complete game on Friday at Houston. He went eight innings and gave up one earned run on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts in the loss. He is the first Shocker pitcher to pitch a complete game loss since Willie Schwanke against TCU on April 1, 2016.
