WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State baseball saw three Shockers taken in the 2026 MLB Draft, which concluded Sunday evening.
Infielder
Jayson Jones heard his name called in the 8th round by the Chicago White Sox as the 225th overall pick. Right handed pitcher
Brady Hamilton went in the 14th round (412th pick) to the Atlanta Braves and catcher
Max Kaufer in the 18th round (537th pick) to the Texas Rangers.
The Shockers have now had a player picked in 46 consecutive MLB drafts with the exception of 2020, which was shortened to just five rounds due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jones emerged as one of the conference's most feared hitters after transferring to Wichita State from Oklahoma State. He finished tied for second in the league in home runs (15) and RBI (56), fourth in batting average (.355), seventh in slugging percentage (.583), and ninth in OPS (1.013). He led the Shockers with 27 multi-hit games, highlighted by a four-hit effort against Kansas State on April 7, and in multi-RBI games with 16. Jones also put together the seventh-longest hitting streak in program history with hits in 25 consecutive games from February 27-April 7.
Hamilton tied for the team lead in innings pitched with 74.0. Over 18 total appearances, he was 4-8 with a 5.72 with 67 strikeouts and 27 walks. On April 25 vs. Rice, Hamilton allowed only one run on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks over 5.2 innings.
Before suffering a season-ending injury, Kaufer was putting together some of the top offensive numbers in the nation. Over the first 18 games of the season, Kaufer hit .440 with 11 home runs and 27 RBIs. He posted four multi-home run games, including back-to-back games vs. West Georgia where he went a combined 5-for-5 with four home runs and 10 RBIs. That two-game onslaught at the plate started a stretch of four consecutive games with a home run.
