SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Wichita State's
Aaron True and
Damien Odle advanced to the NCAA Championships on June 6 in Eugene, Ore.
Two-time conference champion
Aaron True led the Shockers finishing fourth in the javelin at the NCAA West Regional with a throw of 70.55m/231-5, followed by
Damien Odle in 10th with a throw of 67.53m/221-6. Each finished in the top 12, advancing them to the NCAA Championships.
True, a junior from Leroy, Kan., threw 67.05m/219-11 on his first attempt and 67.96m/222-11 on his second attempt. His fourth place mark came on his final attempt landing at 70.55m/231-5.
Odle, a senior from Greensburg Kan., placed second in the second flight. Odle's first attempt landed at 62.15m/203-11 and bettered his mark on his second attempt throwing 63.97m/209-10. The All-American let it fly on his final attempt recording a mark of 67.53m/221-6, good enough for 10th overall.
Senior
John Hoplin placed 20th overall with a throw of 63.91m/209-8, and true freshman
Taran Taylor finished 28th overall with a throw of 61.82m/202-10.
Four-time All-American
Hunter Veith automatically qualified in the decathlon with a personal best 8,046 points, he ranks No. 2 in the nation.
Winny Koskei ran her second race of the NCAA West Regional, she finished 30th overall in the 5000m with a time of 16:19.47, bettering her sixth fastest 5000m time in Shocker history.
