HOUSTON, Texas – Houston defeated No. 24 Wichita State 3-1 in game one of the three-game series.
Starter
Codi Heuer went eight innings and gave up three runs, one earned, on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Trey Vickers went 1-for-4 with a RBI, while
Alec Bohm,
Luke Ritter,
Jordan Boyer and
Greyson Jenista also had a hit.
The Cougars got on the board in the bottom of the first. Connor Hollis led off with a walk and moved to second on a groundout. Jared Triolo reached on a fielder's choice and Hollis scored on a Shocker error for a 1-0 Cougar lead. With two outs, Tyler Bielamowicz singled to left field to drive in Triolo and put UH up 2-0.
The Shockers cut into the lead in the third.
Jordan Boyer led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Travis Young.
Trey Vickers followed with a single to left field to score Boyer and cut the lead to 2-1.
UH got the run back in the bottom of the third. Triolo led off with a double and scored on a single from Joe Davis for a 3-1 Cougar lead.
The Shockers and Cougars play game two of the series on Sat., April 21 at 6:30 p.m. and wrap up the series on Sun., April 22 at 1 p.m.
