Final Results

PALM COAST, Fla.
- In Wichita State's first American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship, Taryn Torgerson took medalist honors behind a career-low and championship-low single round score of 8-under 64, with a birdie on a playoff hole confirming the win.

This is the second Conference Championship medal for Torgerson in her Shocker career after leading Wichita State from the first tee in Florida. Torgerson carded a 2-under 70 in round one on Sunday to lead the entire field before a 5-over 77 in a wind-affected round two pushed her into a tie for fifth entering the final round. But the senior stormed back with a record breaking 8-under round, including eight birdies and an eagle on a 350 yard par-4, to finish at 211 overall with her score of 64 tied for the fourth-lowest round in the NCAA Division I this season.

ECU's Dorthea Forbrigd birdied the 16th, 17th and 18th holes to level Torgerson's three-round score with the Shocker taking control at the playoff hole with another birdie to secure the victory. The senior finishes her career at Wichita State as the most dominant women's golfer in the record books by breaking her own 54-hole and season stroke average records which she set last season. She also completes her career with the lowest career stroke average in Shocker history surpassing current assistant coach Alejandra Arellano

Laine Evans carded her best score of the championship on the final day to earn a tied for ninth finish with 221. Evans shot a 3-under 69, her joint lowest 18-hole score of the season, to earn her third top-10 finish on the season.

Michelle Ledermann finished tied for 36th by also carding her lowest round of the tournament in the championship round with 75. Ledermann finished with 235 overall and ahead of Annika Chickering in a tie for 47th. Chickering ended at 246 after shooting 79 in round three while Abbi Shaddix rounded out the Shocker lineup in 49th after carding 247.

As a team, the Shockers finished in fifth position with 905 in their inaugural American Athletic Conference Championship. Houston pulled away from the field on the final day to claim the team title with 870, while UCF the closest pursuers in second with 884. ECU tied UCF for second by carding its lowest team score in round three to also finish with 884.

Torgerson will now wait for the NCAA Championship selection show on Wednesday, April 25, at 4:30 p.m. CT on Golf Channel to see if she makes one of 24 individuals chosen for the 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship, which will culminate at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., May 18-23.
