CONWAY, Ark. – Wichita State scored six runs in the sixth inning to come back and defeat Central Arkansas 9-6.
Greyson Jenista went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a home run, while
Paxton Wallace went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a triple and
Trey Vickers went 3-for-5 with a double.
Starter
Preston Snavely went 3.2 innings and gave up three runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Reliever
Keylan Killgore earned the win with a shutout inning of relief and
Chandler Sanburn earned his fourth save of the season with 1.2 shutout innings.
UCA struck first in the bottom of the third. Hunter Strong was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and he scored on a one-out double by Tyler Smith for a 1-0 Bear lead.
The Shockers tied it in the top of the fourth.
Greyson Jenista led off with a walk and after
Alec Bohm's fielder's choice,
Mason O'Brien walked and
Trey Vickers singled to load the bases.
Paxton Wallace walked to score Bohm to tie the score at one.
The Bears used a two-out rally to re-take the lead in the fourth. With two outs, TJ Black walked and Stone walked. Josh Somdecerff followed with a home run to left-center to put the Bears up 4-1.
WSU pulled closer in the fifth. With one out,
Luke Ritter reached first on a wild pitch after striking out and Jenista followed with a two-run home run to left-center to cut the lead to 4-3.
Keaton Presley and Justin McCarty walked to lead off the fifth and with two outs Black's two-run single pushed the Bear lead to 6-3.
The Shocker offense exploded in the sixth.
Trey Vickers led off with a double and scored on a triple off the right field wall by Wallace. With one out,
Noah Croft's single drove in Wallace and
Jordan Boyer's single moved Croft to third. Ritter's single to centerfield drove in Croft to tie the score at six. Jenista followed with a single to right-center to score Boyer and put the Shockers up 7-6. Ritter and Jenista both eventually scored on wild pitches to push the Shocker lead to 9-6.
The Shockers are next in action on Thurs., March 29 when they open American play at ECU at 5:30 p.m. CT.
