Shockers Host Multi to Start 2019 Indoor Season

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State kicks off the 2019 indoor track and field season with the Shocker Multi beginning Friday, Nov. 30 at the Heskett Center.
 
The men's heptathlon kicks off day one of the Shocker Multi with the 60m at 2:00 p.m., followed by the long jump, shot put and finishing day one with the high jump.
 
Day two begins with the women's 60m hurdles at 11:30 a.m., followed by the men's 60m hurdles at 11:45 a.m. The women continue the pentathlon with high jump, shot put, long jump and finishing the competition with an 800m run. The men finish day two of the heptathlon with the pole vault and the 1000m run.
 
Wichita State's Ben Johnson enters he competition with the No. 1 seed, the redshirt senior earned all-conference honors finishing second at the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championships with 5,527 points. Johnson completed three heptathlons in 2018, finishing second at each meet. He currently has the fifth best heptathlon score (5,615) in Shocker history.
 
Other Shocker competitors in the heptathlon include, Grant Downes, Chandler Stiawalt, Lucas Shaffer, Davis Dubbert and Tristen Dagenais. Stiawalt, Dubbert and Dagenais each redshirted the 2018 season and will compete in a Shocker uniform for the first time.
 
On the women's side Wichita State will enter eight student-athletes in the pentathlon, including six that redshirted the 2018 season. Claudia Rojo enters the competition as the favorite, her personal best score of 3,695 ranks No. 9 on the Shocker all-time list. Before redshirting the 2018 season, Rojo showed some promise completing three pentathlons and placing fifth at the MVC Indoor Championships in 2017.
 
Sydney Wilson, Kendra Henry, Carlea Miles, Maria Romero, Hannah Cole, Jalen Milligan and Kyleigh Severa each enter the pentathlon. Henry and Miles look to continue their successes from the 2018 season, Miles completed three pentathlons, bettering her score each meet. Henry completed four pentathlons, including three top-three finishes.
 
Former Shocker All-American Hunter Veith won last year's event setting a school record at the time with 5,998 points. Kendra Henry led the Shocker women finishing third with 3,309 points.

Admission to the event is free.

Spectator parking will be available near the South entrance of the Heskett Center, parking places marked with red reserve signs are reserved 24 hours a day and vehicles will be towed at owner's expense.
 

BOSTON, Ma. - Winny Koskei and Rebekah Topham travel Northeast to compete in the Boston University/Sharon Colyear-Danvielle Season Opener Saturday evening.

Winny Koskei looks to carry her success from the cross country season to the 2019 Indoor season, the redshirt sophomore will compete in the 5000m against a very talented field. Koskei will run in the second section of four at approximately 3:15 p.m. CT.

Rebekah Topham will run in the women's 3000m at 1:00 p.m., Topham enters the first section of four.

All sections are ran from fastest to slowest.
