Butler Announces First Group of 2019 Signees

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State University head baseball coach Todd Butler announced the first nine members of the Shockers' 2019 recruiting class Monday, Nov. 19.
 
"We are excited to announce a fantastic, and well-balanced 2019 recruiting class," Butler said. "Our coaching staff locked down five of the top recruits in the state of Kansas, including shortstop Brady Slavens, who will enroll in the spring of 2019, outfielders Quinton Hall and Jake Owens, and right-handed pitchers Mark Adamiak and Austin Seidel."
 
Wichita State's first group of signees includes Brady Slavens, a shortstop from Olathe, Kan.; Quinton Hall, an outfielder from Shawnee, Kan.; Mark Adamiak, a right-handed pitcher from Shawnee, Kan.; Jake Owens, an outfielder from Shawnee, Kan.; Will Stevens, a right-handed pitcher from Kansas City, Mo.; Derek Shaver, an infielder from Grand Junction, Colo.; Kyle Wilson, a right-handed pitcher from Fort Worth, Texas; Couper Cornblum, an infielder from Woodway, Texas, and Austin Seidel, a right-handed pitcher from New Braunfels, Texas.  

The second group of signees will be unveiled Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Perfect Game: Overall – Top 500; State – 8; Position (INF) – 2
Prep Baseball Report: Overall – 197; State – 1; Position (SS) – 1
High School: Was a two-year letterwinner and starter for head coach Rick Setter at Olathe Northwest High School…Number one ranked overall player and shortstop in the state of Kansas, according to Prep Baseball Report…Also the top-ranked shortstop In the state, according to Perfect Game…2018 Preseason Rawlings All-American by Perfect Game…Named first team all-state and first team all-USA Today High School Sports as a junior…Offensive MVP for team in 2018…Hit .391 with 10 doubles, four triples, two homers and a .739 slugging percentage as a junior…First team all-conference selection as a junior and second team all-conference honoree as a sophomore…Was a member of the 2017 and 2018 Substate championship teams…The 2017 team went on to finish fourth at the state tournament…Also played basketball as a freshman…Personal: Son of Ryan and Jennifer Slavens…His father, Ryan, played baseball at Johnson County Community College.

High School: Is a four-year letterwinner and starter, and two-year team captain for head coach Jeff Strickland at Mill Valley High School…Number one ranked outfielder and number two ranked overall player in the state of Kansas by Prep Baseball Report…Number three ranked overall player and outfielder in the state, according to Perfect Game…In 38 games as a junior, hit .363 with 12 doubles, 24 RBIs, 19 runs, 13 walks and a .924 OPS…As a pitcher his junior season, he went 3-0 in five appearances and four starts with a 2.57 ERA, 19 strikeouts and four walks in 16 1/3 innings…Was a first team all-conference honoree and team MVP…Also played basketball and soccer, and bowled...Personal: Son of Mark and Traci Hall…Intends to major in sports management at Wichita State.

High School: Is a three-year letterwinner and two-year starter for head coach Domenic Mussat at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School…Is also a team captain…Ranked seventh overall and second as a pitcher in the state of Kansas, according to Prep Baseball Report…Named second team all-state as a junior…Posted a 5-1 record with a 2.33 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 33 innings of work in 2018…Was named All-Sunflower League honorable mention as a sophomore…Personal: Son of Henry and Ginger Adamiak…Plans to major in medicine at Wichita State.

At Johnson County CC: As a freshman at Johnson County Community College (JCCC), hit .335 with 71 hits, 59 runs, 49 RBIs, 14 stolen bases and four homers…Was named NJCAA Week 4 Player of the Week in 2018…His 2018 team at JCCC posted a 38-23 record with a .340 team batting average and was eighth in the country in hits (665), ninth in triples (33), 12th in runs (550) and 19th in home runs (78)…High School: Was a three-year letter winner and starter at St. James Academy…Personal: Son of Lonny and Linda Owens…Plans to major in sports management at Wichita State.

High School: Is a two-year letterwinner and one-year starter for head coach Blaine Lewis at Park Hill High School…Ranked sixth overall and second as a RHP in the state of Missouri by Perfect Game…In the fall of 2018 while playing for the Royals' Scout Team, he posted a 1.81 ERA…Personal: Son of Tony and Leisa Stevens…Plans to major in business at WSU.
