11/15/2018 3:00:00 PM

WICHITA, Kan. – Head women's golf coach Tom McCurdy revealed the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent for the 2019-20 season.

Sarah Lawson, Mar Vidal, Aufa Putri Rachmadya, all signed their NLI on Wednesday, giving the Shockers some added depth to next year's roster.

"We are excited to announce our recruiting class for 2019," McCurdy said. "The Shockers will be adding three golfers who bring a talent base, attitude, and work ethic our program will need to continue our move up in the American. We have some pretty big shoes to fill with Laine (Evans) and Gavrilla (Arya) being our seniors, so I'm very excited that we have these three signees joining our program."

Sarah Lawson, Kansas City, Kan.

Lawson comes to Wichita State after leading Shawnee-Mill Valley to their first-ever 6A Kansas State Championship title in her senior season. Coming up with a number of individual accolades, including an individual title at the 2018 Shawnee Mission East Invitational, Lawson finished her final high school tournament as the 6A Kansas State Championship runner-up after her personal best score of 73.

Her performance earned Lawson a place as a member of the EKL All-Conference Team in addition to becoming a two-time all-state member and a 6A Regional Championship. Lawson earned a spot on the Kansas City Golf Association Mid-America Junior Team, where her efforts contributed to the team's win and retention of the Mid-America Junior Cup in 2018.

Finishing the summer as the 2018 KCGA Tour Runner-up, Lawson was one of four area golfers named as a 2018 Girls Performance Initiative finalist and was a Hurricane Junior Golf Tour National Tournament qualifier.

McCurdy on Sarah Lawson: "I'm so excited about Sarah joining the Shocker Golf program. Her game has improved dramatically in the past year and her high school career culminated with an individual second place showing at state while leading her team to a state championship win. She is very intelligent and coachable; a fantastic team player and Sarah is a golfer that we are going to be looking to for the Shockers to make a big jump up in the American."

Aufa Putri Rachmadya, Jakarta, Indonesia

Rachmadya comes to the Air Capital as the 2018 Indonesia Junior Golf Premier League Champion. The 2016 Indonesia Junior Golf's Player of the Year saw runner-up finishes in the Indonesia National Amateur Championship, the Indonesia Elite Amateur Championship and the IMG Junior World Qualification in 2018.

After claiming the 15th Indonesia Junior Amateur Open Championship in 2017, Rachmadya was the second runner-up in the Indonesia National Junior Golf Championship for two consecutive years.

As the first runner-up at the Pondok Indah International Junior Golf Championship in 2016, Rachmadya earned Indonesia Junior Golf's Player of the Year that same year.

McCurdy on Aufa Putri Rachmadya: "Aufa is such a good all-around golfer. She is the type of golfer that will put consistent numbers on the board and with her great attitude, she's also the type of player that will make others around her better. Always smiling, always positive, always giving her best. Those are Aufa's strengths and Shocker Golf just got a whole lot better with her signing."

Mar Vidal, Barcelona, Spain

Vidal will come to Wichita with a plethora of international experience under her belt. She most recently claimed first in the 2018 Maresme Championship, shooting a 70 in the first round.

After second place finishes in the Valles Championship and Baix Emporda Championship, Vidal placed third at the Barcelona Championship and third in the Perelada Granprix Championship. Following another third place finish in the Perelada Granprix Championship, Vidal placed fourth at the Montanya Championship and second at the Bonmont Junior Triangular in 2017.

The Barcelona golfer has also competed at the Catalonian Junior Triangular, the Montanya Championship, the Active Africa Charity Championship, and the Catalonian Championship Interclubs, shooting a 71 and a 73 in 2017's event.

McCurdy on Mar Vidal: "Mar is a very solid golfer. Her fundamentals are sound and she has a high ceiling. Although she has good international experience, I think that her best is yet to come. Her attitude and demeanor are ideal for continued
development as an athlete and she is going to be a consistent contributor for the Shockers."
