Men's Golf Adds All-State Player on National Signing Day

11/14/2018 5:45:00 PM

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State men's golf announced that Joe Bultman signed his National Letter of Intent for the 2019-20 season on Wednesday.

Bultman, a native of Kansas City, Kan., is a three-time Junior PGA Championship participant and is a three-time All-State selection at Shawnee Mission Northwest.

"We are extremely excited to have Joe Bultman joining the men's golf program here at Wichita State," associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Judd Easterling said. "Joe comes with a strong background of golf achievements and academic success. Joe is a very talented golfer and an even better young man."

The two-time Kansas City Golf Association Junior Player of the Year will join the Shockers with a loaded resume. Bultman was the Sunflower League individual champion last season while earning his third first team all-league honor in the process.

After coming in 11th in the 2018 KSHSAA 6A state championship, Bultman earned first team All-State. His accomplished junior season allowed him to collect more accolades, winning the Kansas Golf Coaches Association Player of the Year award and the Kenneth Smith Award, given to the top golfer in the Kansas City area, in 2018.

Not only has Bultman succeeded at the state level, but has taken his talent on the national stage. Competing twice in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, Bultman followed that up with two consecutive appearances in the Big I National Championship.

With two selections in 2015 and 2016 for the Mid-America Cup team, Bultman earned a spot on the KCGA Mid-America Cup team once again in 2018. Edging out his individual opponent, Bultman guided the KCGA to a 9-7 victory over the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association.

"Joe will come in right away and help us here at Wichita State," Easterling said. "We have watched Joe play a lot of golf and we have always been impressed with his game, whether it's playing here locally in Kansas or on the national stage at the United States Junior Amateur Championship. Joe is a huge signee for us, a top-level player that can come in right away and help us."
