WICHITA, Kan. – The Black Team secured the 2018 Wichita State Baseball Fall World Series title with a 6-4 win over the Yellow Team in game two of the series on Friday, Oct. 19, at Eck Stadium.
The Black Team claimed a 2-0 victory in the series opener Thursday to win the best-of-three series, 2-0. Both teams will still play a third game on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 1 p.m., with the annual Halloween SCREAMage game scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20. Activities for SCREAMage will begin at 12:30 p.m. on the concourse at Eck Stadium.
Redshirt junior catcher
Noah Croft went a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs, and sophomore third baseman
Paxton Wallace added a 2-for-4 performance with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Black Team offensively.
Freshman right-handed pitcher Miller Pleimann (1-0) earned the victory on the mound after tossing three innings and allowing three earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Black wasted no time in jumping to an early 2-0 lead, plating two runs in the top of the first on Wallace's double to right field and Croft's single up the middle.
Yellow responded through, and tied the game in the bottom-half of the inning after junior outfielder
Jacob Katzfey smacked an RBI triple to right center and
Luke Ritter hit a ground out to short, plating Katzfey.
The Black Team regained the advantage for good with three runs in the top of the second. Wallace plated the first two runs of the frame with his second double of the game – a hit down the right field line – before Croft placed an RBI single in left field for the third run of the inning.
Junior infielder
Alex Jackson went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a double, while Katzfey added two hits, including his triple, to go along with a run and RBI to pace the Yellow Team at the plate.
Freshman left-hander Adam Stephenson (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound after surrendering five earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and a walk in 1 2/3 innings.
