Shockers Set to Compete in Multiple Meets

WICHITA, Kan. -  
Wichita State's track and field program will have nearly 20 athletes competing in the Pittsburg State Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27 in Pittsburg, Kan.
 
A week after the team set 52 personal records and one school record a majority of the team is taking the week off. The Shockers will compete with the core distance and pole vault groups Saturday at Pittsburg State. Other Shocker athletes competing this weekend include, Abbi Bird and John Duvall in the Bill Butterworth in Wichita, Kan., and American Athletic Conference leader in the mile (4:10.09), Zack Penrod will be running at the UW Invitational in Seattle, Wash.
 
Senior Gage Garcia leads the men's distance group in the 5000m as the second overall seed with a time of 14:38.46 and Austin Chippeaux enters the men's high jump as the second seed with a career best 2.14m/7-0.25. Juniors Hayden Bugner and Alesa Frey will compete in the men's and women's pole vault invitational as third seeds, Bugner enters with a personal best 5.10m/16-8.75 and Frey has a personal best 4.06m/13-4.
 
Penrod is competing at the UW Invitational on Saturday at 2:05 p.m., he will be running in section four of the men's mile. Rebekah Topham will be competing unattached in the women's 3000m at 4:15 p.m., in section four.
 
Duvall will run in the men's 60m and Bird will compete in the women's high jump on Saturday, in the Bill Butterworth meet.
