NORMAL, Ill. -- The Wichita State men's tennis team kicked off Missouri Valley Conference play with a 7-0 sweep over Illinois State today at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts.

The Shockers (11-9, 1-0 MVC) swept the doubles point, beginning with Vitor Mendes and Jan Poboril winning 6-3 over Dylan Steffens and Christoffer Greve in the third flight. The duos of Jocelyn Devilliers/Haru Inoue and Marius Frosa/Murkel Dellien followed with a pair 6-4 victories in the second and first flights respectively. Frosa and Dellien (7-3 in doubles play) played in the top flight for the first time this year.

In singles play, Poboril started off with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Peter Foersom in the sixth flight, and Mendes shortly followed up, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Egehan Sertkaya in the fifth flight. Devilliers sealed the Shockers' win, and brought his overall singles record back to .500 (13-13), with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Andreas Boers in the third flight. No. 79 Inoue - who missed out on last weekend's matches - returned without missing a beat, beating Urh Kranjc 6-4, 6-0 in the top flight. The victory gave Inoue his team-leading 20th overall singles win on the season, and improved his record to 8-4 when playing in the top flight. Frosa (14-5) and Dellien (11-5) both won to continue their hot stretches of play and close out match scoring. Frosa won his fourth-straight match, and has won six of his last seven matches. Dellien has won five of his last seven contests.

The Redbirds dropped to 6-13 (0-1 MVC) on the season.
