Box Score CARBONDALE, Ill. – The No. 48 Wichita State women's tennis team defeated Southern Illinois this afternoon at the SIU University Courts. The win marks Wichita State's 81st consecutive win over a Missouri Valley Conference opponent.

Southern Illinois (6-9, 0-1 MVC)) captured the doubles point, coming from behind after Fatima Bizhukova/Gabriela Porubin topped Vitoria Beirao/Meagan Monaghan 6-4 in the top flight. Ana Sofia Cordero/Xiwei Cai defeated Tanaporn Thongsing/Ting-Ya Hsu by a score of 6-4 in the second flight. Polina Dozortseva/Tereza Klocova and Giulia Guidetti/Marta Bellucco battled to a tiebreaker, with the Saluki duo ultimately winning 7-6(6) to clinch the point.

"We've come a long way in our doubles play this year," said head coach Colin Foster. "Credit SIU for playing well, but we also didn't play the aggressive and focused doubles that we have been lately.

Wichita State (8-7, 2-0 MVC)) rebounded by winning their first four singles matches to take the dual. Guidetti handled Cai 6-3, 6-1 in the top flight. In the second flight, Thongsing defeated Cordero 7-5, 6-4. Porubin took down Klocova 6-3, 6-2 in the third flight, and Bizhukova sealed the dual by defeating Yana Golovkina by the same score in the fourth flight. Hsu had to withdraw from her match against Athena Chrysanthou in the fifth flight due to injury, losing 7-5, 3-2. Marija Mastilovic capped the day with the final Shocker point, defeating Dozortseva 6-2, 6-1.

"In the singles, we came out and got right down to business," said Foster. "There were only three indoor courts, and we did well to grab momentum early and run with it."
