SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Cal Poly scored a run in the 13th inning to defeat Wichita State 5-4 in game one of a three-game series.
Luke Ritter went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a home run and a double, while
Greyson Jenista went 2-fot-6 with a RBI.
Starter
Willie Schwanke went four innings and gave up four runs on seven hits with no walks and one strikeout.
Cal Poly used three singles and a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 in the bottom of the first. The Shockers answered in the top of the third. With one out,
Travis Young tripled to right-center and scored on a groundout from
Alec Bohm to tie the score at one.
The Mustangs used a two-out rally to go ahead in the fourth. With two outs and nobody on, Cal Poly had four-straight hits to score three runs and go in front 4-1.
WSU cut into the lead in the seventh.
Trey Vickers led off with a walk and
Jacob Katzfey followed with a pinch-hit single.
Alex Jackson sacrificed them both over and Vickers scored on a groundout from
Greyson Jenista to cut the lead to 4-2.
Bohm led off the eighth with a single and Ritter followed with a two-run home run to tie the score at four.
The Shockers and Mustangs play game two of the series on Sat., March 18 at 8 p.m. Central time.
