Shockers Finish Regular Season Finale

PEORIA, Ill. –
Wichita State men's team placed ninth in the 8k Red Race and the women were 15th in the 6k Red Race Friday afternoon at the Bradley Pink Classic on the Newman Golf Course.
 
After a week off, Wichita State's men entered the race ranked No. 13 in the Midwest Region. The Shockers placed ninth out of 28 teams, which featured 217 runners.
 
The men's team had two top 20 finishers led by Zack Penrod in 17th place with a time of 25:07.7, followed by senior Nathan Wickoren in a time of 25:11.9 to finish 19th. Reno Law ran the 8K in 26:04.9 to place 77th, Ethan Kossover placed 80th with a time of 26:08.7 and fellow freshman Ben Flowers ran 26:15.0 to finish 84th.
 
"We were a little disappointed with our performance," head cross country coach Kirk Hunter said, "I put the main emphasis on me, this group is strong enough and tough enough to come back for a great race at the conference meet."
 
Wichita State's women's team finished 15th out of 31 teams in the 6K Red Race, which featured 247 runners.
 
The Shockers were led by freshman Winny Koskei finishing in 28th place with a time of 21:41.2. Senior Jordan Maestas ran the 6K in 22:15.5 to place 63rd and junior Tangy Wiseman finished 89th in 22:31.2. Yazmine Wright ran 22:33.3 to place 91st and sophomore McKenna Paintin rounded out WSU's top five finishing 136th in 23:08.1.
 
"Winny ran an exceptional race," Hunter said, "I thought the girls put together a really great race, they continue to improve each meet."
 
Wichita State will run next at the American Conference Championships in Philadelphia, Pa., October 28.
