WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State men's golfer
Grant Bennett has been selected to compete as an individual at the NCAA Regional in Stillwater, Oklahoma on May 16-18.
Bennett, a junior from Prosper, Texas, was the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Year this season and was an All-Conference selection for the third consecutive year. Bennett finished second at the MVC Championship with a score of 71-72-70=213, and led the conference in stroke average (71.1) this season. He also led all golfers in Golfer of the Week awards, winning it five times during the season.
The Regional will be played at Karsten Creek Golf Club which is a par-72 and has a yardage of 7,418. Karsten Creek has hosted two NCAA Championships in the past.
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 16-18. Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The Stillwater Regional is one of the three latter sites. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 27-June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon. The University of Oregon is the host for the 2016 championships.
