WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State baseball student-athlete
Cody Tyler has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 25-May 1.
Tyler, a sophomore left-handed pitcher from Terrell, Texas, led the Shockers to a road win on Friday at Southern Illinois. He pitched a complete game shutout in Wichita State's 8-0 win.
In nine innings, he allowed just four hits with no walks and tied his career-high with five strikeouts. He retired 15-straight Salukis at one point and recorded 17 fly ball outs in the game. It was his second complete game of the season and he improved to 3-1 in MVC play.
It was the first nine-inning complete game shutout by a Shocker pitcher since Kris Gardner did it against Indiana State on May 23, 2013.
It is the first Pitcher of the Week honor of his career.
