COLUMBUS, Ohio - No. 71 Wichita State bounced back from its first defeat yesterday to take down No. 51 South Carolina, 4-2, Sunday morning in the consolation match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Varsity Tennis Center.

The Shockers (4-1) started the match on a strong note by winning the doubles point on court Nos. 1 and 2. At No.1 doubles, Tin Ostojic and Jocelyn Devilliers defeated Alex Fennell and Thomas Mayronne, 6-2. WSU's No. 34 doubles team of Miroslav Herzan and Haru Inoue downed Sam Swank and Harrison O'Keefe in the point-clinching match, 7-6 (6). Herzan and Inoue ran their doubles record to an impressive 13-2 on the season with the victory.

In singles, Ostojic defeated No. 116 Fennell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Herzan upset No. 65 Harrison O'Keefe in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1 to give WSU a 3-0 lead at that point, needing just one more win to clinch the match.

The Gamecocks collected two points with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 to cut Wichita State's lead to 3-2. Freshman Eddie Stoica would come through with the match-clinching win at No. 6 over Wood Benton, 6-4, 6-4.

The Shockers return to action next weekend when they travel to Tulsa, Okla., to play Purdue on Saturday and finish up with a match against Tulsa on Sunday.
