Three Honored at Hall of Fame Dinner

2015 Inductees Brings Coach-Athlete List to 133

WICHITA, Kan. – Shannon Armstrong (Track and Field), Kelly Broussard (Volleyball) and Mike Drumright (Baseball) were honored Sat., Feb. 21 at the dinner for the 2015 Class of the Wichita State Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame.

The three also threw out the first pitch at the baseball game between Wichita State and Texas State on Feb. 21.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for halftime of Wichita State's Feb. 22 men's basketball game against Evansville.

The addition of this year's class brings the total of former coaches and student-athletes in the Hall of Fame to 133, while there are 12 at-large selections.

Here's a look at each 2015 inductee's success at Wichita State:

Shannon Armstrong, Track and Field (2002-05)

An All-American in the 2004 Indoor 60m-hurdles, he was selected to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Centennial Team in 2000 … A six-time MVC Champion (2004, 60m indoor hurdles; 2005, 60m outdoor hurdles; 2004, 100m dash; 2004, 200m dash; 2003, 110m hurdles; 2004, 110m hurdles) … He set the 60m-hurdles and 200m indoor records at WSU and earned numerous all-Valley honors ... In 2004 he was named MVP of the meet (an award that goes to the highest point winner) as well as voted Most Outstanding Male Track Athlete by the league coaches.

Kelly Broussard, Volleyball (2004-08)

A 2008 AVCA honorable mention All-American and 2008 MVC Libero of the Year and member of WSU's first three NCAA Tournament teams and three MVC championship teams … In 2008, she was named all-Central Region 1st team, MVC Libero of the Year and MVC 1st team … In 2007, she was MVC second team and named to the MVC all-tournament team … An eight-time MVC Defensive Player of the Week, she is in WSU career record books: 1st in digs (2,202), 9th in matches played (128), 1st in digs per set (4.97) … An outstanding student-athlete, she was 2008 Academic All-District 1st team and a 2007 & 2008 first team all-Valley Scholar-Athlete.

Mike Drumright, Baseball (1993-95)

A multiple All-American selection in 1995, he was named by Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America and the Smith Super Team … He was also named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year in 1995 and first-team all-Valley in 1994 and 1995 … A member of three MVC regular-season championship teams, three NCAA Tournament teams and one MVC Tournament championship team … An outstanding student-athlete, he was named the 1995 CoSIDA Academic All-American Athlete of the Year and an Academic All-American in 1994 and 1995 … Also a three-time MVC Academic selection… He was also named to the 1995 ABCA All-Region Team … He still holds the school record for strikeouts in a game with 17 against Illinois State in 1994 … In 1995 he also threw a one-hitter against Creighton ... His 18 starts in 1995 and 17 in 1994 are four and five off the career leader … Had the 11th most career-strikeouts by a Shocker at the end of his career ...  Drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the first round following his junior season when he went 11-3 with a 3.61 ERA with four complete games.
