Connie Long (Track & Field, 1985-89)

The first female student-athlete in Wichita State history to be named an All-American and the first female track and field student-athlete to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
  • Her first honor came in 1986 when she placed sixth in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships with a leap of 5-feet, 10 1/4 inches.
  • She earned two All-America titles as a senior with outstanding performances at the NCAA indoor and outdoor meets.
  • She jumped 5-10 to place fourth at that year¹s indoor meet.
  • Placed second in the outdoor championships with a jump of 6-feet, 3/4 inches.
  • Also qualified for the NCAA outdoor meet in 1985, '86 and '87, but did not place.
  • Holds the WSU indoor and outdoor high jump records.
  • Both record jumps came at the respective Gateway Conference championship meets in 1989.
  • She went 5-feet, 11 1/4 inches to win the indoor title and jumped 6-feet, 1 1/4 inches to win the outdoor meet.
  • Two times was the Gateway indoor champion and three times the outdoor champion.
  • Participated in the 1989 Olympic Sports Festival and placed sixth.
  • Participated in the 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials. Inducted, 1994.
