As a junior in 1989, he dominated hitters with his overpowering fastball and wicked slider, racking up a nation-leading 18 saves to go along with a 5-0 record.
 
  • He posted saves in three of the Shockers' five victories during their national championship run, tying a College World Series record.
  • That performance earned him a spot on the All-CWS Team.
  • He gave a virtuoso performance in an NCAA West II Regional elimination game against Fresno State, striking out six of the 10 hitters he retired to keep alive the Shockers¹ championship hopes.
  • His 1989 season produced Shocker records in appearances (38), earned run average (1.08), fewest hits per nine innings (5.2) and saves.
  • He struck out 86 batters in just 75 innings of work.
  • He amassed 28 saves and struck out 168 in a career that saw him work strictly in relief in 96 games.
  • Drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 1989. Inducted, 1997.
