One of the best all-around athletes in state history, Jim Hershberger has won awards in fourteen different sports and achieved national recognition in five. The Wichita State University track is named in Jim's honor and he holds 17 national AAU and USTFF track championships and 24 world age records. In 1954 he ran the world¹s second fastest 220-yard dash. Hershberger¹s many civic activities include church, Goodwill Industries of Wichita, Easter Seals Chairman, Mental Retardation Board, the Hershberger Run and The Hershberger Thanksgiving Dinner. He donated WSU's first fully endowed track scholarship, "The Fritz Snodgrass Scholarship." In 1981, he was named "Kansas Man of the Year." Inducted, 1982.
