WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State landed three players on the National Associated of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 16 Team, released Friday.
Juniors Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet earned First Team honors, and senior Tekele Cotton was named to the Second Team.
WSU (30-5) repeated as Missouri Valley Conference champions and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the second time in three seasons.
Baker averaged a team-high 14.7 points to go with 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals.
VanVleet (13.6 points, 5.2 assists) averaged 18.2 points over the team's last 11 games.
Cotton was a major contributor on the defensive side while chipping in 9.8 points and 3.9 boards.
Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game.Â
The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches.
