COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Wichita State women's golf team shot a school record 896 to finish in eighth place at The Johnie Imes Invitational. The Shockers shot a 302 in the final round, a 297 in the first round and a 297 in the second round at the par-72 The Club at Hawthorne.

“I thought it was a pretty complete performance,” head coach Tom McCurdy said. “We had a couple of good rounds yesterday and a decent round today. “We are doing a lot of good things and doing what we need to do to get better.”

The previous best was 900 at the MVC Championships in 2014 and at the Chip-N Club Invitational in 2014.

The first and second round scores of 297 are tied for the sixth-best 18-hole score in school history. The 36-hole score of 594 is the third-best in school history.

Junior Bryce Schroeder shot a 2-under par 70 in the final round to finish tied for 19th. The score is tied for the fourth lowest in school history. Her total score of 219 is also tied for the fourth-best in school history. Both marks are also career-bests for Schroeder and it is the ninth top-20 finish of her career.

“Bryce yesterday hit the ball well, but today she made a ton of birdies,” McCurdy said. “She just had so many good approach shots and was on fire today.”

Junior Meghan Schuetz finished in a tie for 26th place after shooting a 5-over 77 in the final round. She shot a 1-under par 71 in the first round and a 1-over par 73 in the second round. Her 54-hole score of 221 is tied for the seventh-best in school history.

“Meghan did a great job and showed solid composure and mental game,” McCurdy said. “She is a solid, solid player right now.”

Sophomore Maria Alejandra Villalobos finished tied for 35th (77-75-73-225) and her total score of 225 ties her career-best. Sophomore Samantha Stewart finished tied for 57th (74-75-83-232) and freshman Taryn Torgerson finished tied for 76th (83-79-82-244).

Junior Dani Rugeles Duran, playing as an individual, finished 67th (80-80-77-237).

The Shockers are next in action Oct. 4-5 at the Diane Thomason Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
