Shocker head coach Colin Foster was proud of the way the Shockers competed against the Sooners.
“Oklahoma is a veteran, well-coached team,” Foster said. “I'm really proud of the way we closed out leads in the matches we won and fought tooth and nail in the ones we didn't.
“We knew it would take a very focused effort to beat them. We certainly delivered on that end of things, but OU just outplayed us on enough courts and they proved why they are a top 20 team.”
The Shockers finished the year at 19-7 while winning the Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament championship for the sixth year in a row. No. 55 Wichita State was a combined 8-0 in Valley play, including 6-0 in the regular season and 2-0 in the Valley tournament.
The Shockers were ranked nationally for the first time this season going into their February 16 matchup against then No. 72 Missouri and remained ranked for the rest of the season. Their highest ranking was No. 32 going into their matchup with then No. 58 Kansas State on March 8.
