WTen: No. 51 Shocks Defeat Evansville 7-0, Now 4-0 in MVC

WICHITA, Kan. – No. 51 Wichita State defeated Evansville 7-0 at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex at WSU's campus in Wichita during the second match of their Saturday doubleheader. Earlier in the day, the Shockers defeated Southern Illinois 7-0.The Shockers improved to 15-6 on the year and 4-0 in Missouri Valley Conference (play) while Evansville dropped to 7-11 and 1-3 overall in Valley competition.

Lucia Kovalova/Veronika Blaskova started off doubles with an 8-1 win over Natasha James/Kelsey Costales at No. 1 doubles. Abby Stevens/Julia Schiller (No. 7 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Doubles Rankings) clinched the doubles point and the 1-0 advantage for No. 51 Wichita State when they won 8-5 against Mina Milovic/Andjela Brquljan at No. 3 doubles.

Although the doubles point was clinched, Marketa Trousilova/Marina Moreno beat Rebecca Pedrazzi/Montse Blasco Fernandez (No. 9 in the ITA's Central Doubles Rankings) 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.

Blaskova won 6-0, 6-0 against Milovic at No. 6 singles to give the Shockers a 2-0 lead. Stevens took down Costales at No. 4 singles to push the Shocker advantage to 3-0.

Kovalova and Pedrazzi extended the Shocker lead from 3-0 to 5-0. Kovalova clinched the match at No. 3 singles when she earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Moreno while Pedrazzi beat James 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

Blasco Fernandez and Schiller pushed the score from 5-0 to the 7-0 final score with victories in each of their singles matches. Blasco Fernandez won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles against Brqulajan and Schiller took down Trousilova 6-3, 2-6, 12-10 at No. 1 singles to close the match.

Wichita State's next dual-match takes place on Friday at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex at WSU's campus in Wichita when they face Northern Iowa at 1 p.m.
