WICHITA, Kan. – No. 51 Wichita State won 7-0 against SIU on Saturday at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex in Wichita. The Shockers moved to 14-6 on the year and 3-0 in Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) play while the Salukis dropped to 14-7 overall and 3-1 in MVC play.

Doubles began with Julia Schiller/Abby Stevens (No. 7 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Doubles Rankings) winning 8-6 at No. 3 doubles over Ari Baza/Polina Dozortseva. The Shockers clinched the doubles point and took the 1-0 dual-match advantage after Lucia Kovalova/Veronika Blaskova defeated Korey Love/Anita Lee 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.

Although the doubles point was already clinched, Rebecca Pedrazzi/Montse Blasco Fernandez (No. 9 in the ITA's Central Doubles Rankings) won 8-7(3) over Natasha Tomishima/Megan Monaghan at No. 2 doubles.

At No. 6 singles, Blaskova defeated Gisela Baza 6-3, 6-1 to give the Shockers a 2-0 lead. Blasco Fernandez earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles against Ari Baza to extend the Shocker advantage to 3-0.

Kovalova and Stevens helped push the Shocker lead from 3-0 to 5-0. While Kovalova won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles over Monaghan, Stevens took care of Dozortseva 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.

Schiller and Pedrazzi finished the dual-match to give the Shockers their 7-0 dual-match win. Schiller won 6-3, 6-2 over Tomishima at No. 1 singles and at No. 2 singles, Pedrazzi earned a 6-3, 7-6(4) victory against Lee.

The Shockers next match will be tonight at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex against Evansville at 6:30 p.m. Tonight's match will be filmed by the Tennis Channel as part of their series “Inside College Tennis with Tony Minnis,” a 30-minute episode on Wichita State men's and women's tennis that will air later this spring.
