SB: WSU Travels to Tulsa Tuesday, Hosts Kansas Wednesday

WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State softball team will travel to Tulsa, Okla., Tuesday for a midweek game against the No. 17/18 Tulsa Hurricane at 5 p.m. before hosting Kansas in a rescheduled matchup Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Shockers go into Tulsa with a 20-12 overall record and a 7-2 record in the Missouri Valley Conference after going 2-1 against Bradley last weekend. Wichita State dropped the first game 5-0 before winning the second game, 6-5, highlighted by a five-run rally in the seventh inning that was capped by an infield single by Melanie Jaegers to lift the Shockers to victory.

A sophomore outfielder, Brittany Fortner led the team with a .636 batting average, going 7-for-11 in the series against Bradley, March 29-30 to help lead the Shockers to a 2-1 record on the weekend. The Cedar Hill, Mo., native went 4-for-4 in game two, including a double, two RBIs and a game-tying single through the right side in the seventh inning. On the weekend, Fortner had two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored to go with her .818 slugging and .636 on-base percentages.

Williams went 4-for-9 (.444) on the weekend, including three doubles, a RBI and a team-high 18 putouts to help lead the Shockers to a 2-1 record over Bradley. The sophomore transfer hit a leadoff double to right center in the first inning to get things going for Wichita State, before hitting her second in the third to help lift the Shockers to a 13-3 victory.

Tulsa comes into the game with a 32-2 overall record and a 9-0 record in Conference USA. The Hurricane swept UTEP last weekend, keeping the Miners scoreless in all three games, including a no-hitter on Sunday.

Jill Barrett leads Tulsa with a .504 batting average, including six doubles, a team-high three triples, two home runs and 22 RBIs. The Hurricane's pitching staff has been a force for Tulsa, with a combined 1.07 ERA, holding opponents to a .167 batting average.

Kansas comes to Wilkins Stadium with a 27-10 overall record and a 3-0 record in the Big 12. The Jayhawks swept Oklahoma State last weekend in its first conference series, including a 1-0 decision in eight innings on Friday.

Chaley Brickey leads the team with a .400 batting average that includes nine doubles, eight home runs and 27 RBIs to go along with her team-high .714 slugging and .532 on-base percentages.
