Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – No. 20 UC Santa Barbara scored the winning run in the ninth to defeat Wichita State 3-2 in the final game of a three-game series.
Starter Sam Tewes went six innings and allowed one earned run on three hits with four walks and one strikeout in a no decision.
Dayne Parker went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Tanner Kirk also went 2-for-4.
With one out in the third, Tanner Dearman tripled down the right field line. He scored on a single to centerfield by Dayne Parker to give the Shocks a 1-0 lead.
The Shockers added on a run in the fourth. Tyler Baker was hit by a pitch with one out and reached third after a Gaucho throwing error. A sacrifice fly from Chase Simpson scored Baker for a 2-0 lead.
The Gauchos used a solo home run from Joey Epperson in the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1.
UCSB tied it in the sixth. Woody Woodward reached on a two-base error to lead off the inning, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at two.
Andrew Calico singled to lead off the ninth and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With one out, he came around to score on a pinch-hit double from Billy Fredrick to give the Gauchos the 3-2 win.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., March 18 at Arizona State at 7:30 p.m. Central time.
