WICHITA, Kan. – Sophomore point guard Fred VanVleet was named a 2014 Bob Cousy Award finalist on Friday. With Friday's nomination, VanVleet has now earned his eighth postseason honor.
VanVleet was previously named to the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference All-First Team, the 2014 MVC All-Defensive Team, the 2014 MVC Most-Improved Team as the Team Captain, and was named the 2014 Larry Bird MVC Player of the Year.
VanVleet was also named to the Sporting News All-America Third Team on Monday, a member of the United States Basketball Writer's Association (USBWA) District VI All-District Team on Tuesday and to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division 16 All-First Team on Wednesday.
2014 Bob Cousy Award
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today the six finalists for the 2014 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award. The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in men's college basketball. The original list of 47 candidates was narrowed down to the below watch list of six student athletes by a nationally based committee.
