WICHITA, Kan. – Former Wichita State baseball pitcher Kris Johnson made his Major League debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sun., Aug. 18.
Johnson became the 34th Shocker player to play in the big leagues.
He pitched six innings in relief for the Pirates and gave up two runs on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Johnson, a left-hander from Blue Springs, Mo., played for the Shockers from 2004-06 and earned freshman All-American honors in 2004. He finished his career at WSU 16-2 with a 2.94 ERA. He pitched 143.2 innings with 130 strikeouts.
