TF: Bahner Finishes Seventh in Thorpe Cup

CHULA VISTA, Calif.- Wichita State Track and Field student-athlete Austin Bahner finished seventh in the decathlon as competition at the Thorpe Cup finished on Sunday afternoon.

Bahner, who was in ninth place after day one, used a strong showing in the discus throw to jump two positions in the overall standings. He finished first among all competitors in the event with a throw of 155-07. Bahner's 7,744 points over the two-day decathlon was third among the American competitors.

German Patrick Spinner took the top spot with 7,906 points. Germany was able to outlast Team USA in the team total with 38,899 points to the American's 38,841 points.

About the Thorpe Cup: The Thorpe Cup is an international track and field competition between USA and Germany. Teams are made up of up to seven men and seven women who compete in decathlon and heptathlon. Athletes received a predetermined number of points based upon their performances in each of the events in the decathlon and heptathlon. The top five men's and top three women's scores are added together to determine the overall men's and women's team winners.
