WICHITA, Kan.- Members of the Wichita State men's tennis team were awarded MVC All-Conference awards on Thursday night ahead of the MVC Tennis Team Championships that start on Friday at Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
Junior Erick Reyes, who went a perfect 5-0 in conference play and is currently on a 13-match winning streak, took home the All-Conference award at No. 6 singles. Reyes has had an outstanding season thus far with a 19-5 record in singles competition.
The Shocker men took home awards at two doubles positions. Tin Ostojic and Matheus Pereira captured the award and No. 1 doubles while Tomislav Gregurovic and Guillermo Nicol won at No. 3 doubles. Ostojic and Pereira went undefeated in MVC play and have a record of 18-3 on the season. Gregurovic and Nicol went 4-1 in conference play.
Newcomer Ilija Cuic was named to the All-Select team for his efforts in singles play on the season. He has a record of 11-9, including 3-2 in conference competition.
For the second straight season the Shockers took home the MVC Freshman of the Year with Ostojic being named the recipient on Thursday night. On the season he has a record of 17-9 in singles play and 20-6 in doubles competition.
Pereira was also named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team and Gregurovic was named to the Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention Team.
The Shockers will play their first match of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship on Saturday, April 27 when they play the winner of No. 3 Southern Illinois and No. 6 Creighton at Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex. The match will begin at 2 p.m. and live stats can be found on the tournament central page on GoShockers.com.
